ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I would like to thank Marianne Aaron of MAKetubah for her magnificent cover, and Ron Aaron for his stalwart assistance; Martina Hochstein also helped enormously with the design. Leah and Jacob's escape route from Goshen to the Red Sea is based on The Miracles of Exodus: A Scientist's Discovery of the Extraordinary Natural Causes of the Biblical Stories by Colin J. Humphreys; many of the events that occur towards the end of the novel stem from his research. Stan and Resa Davids of the Union of Reform Judaism provided excellent advice on publicizing the book. Larisa Marmerstein and Zachary Nosanchuk of Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple made invaluable contributions to the early drafts, as did the Best Darn Workshop in the World: Lilith, Micaela, Martina, Emilia, Vivien, Ella and Claude. Anna Kocherovsky of www.tapestrystudio.com graciously allowed me to use her tapestry image, "Miriam Dancing," during the beta phase of this website.

Most of all I would like to thank my father, Nick Gordon, whose careful, thoughtful and creative editing has accompanied me since I learned to write; my brother Seth, associate artistic director of the Repertory Theater of St. Louis, whose literary eye has always helped me even though I never wrote a play; my mother Carol Gordon-Arian, who is always ready to broadcast her children's accomplishments to "the immediate world"; and my brother Gabriel, music director of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony, for just being the coolest baby bro a big sister could have.
